Such a great post. And I HATE this about movies. Sometimes things don't always work out. Sometimes breaking up, though hard to do, is what needs to be done. ARRRGH. *poundy*

And Parenthood (spoiler alert). Do you watch? Thankfully it's not for kids and won't be contributing to the Parent Trap fantasy. Also, my ex-boyfriend told me (via DM on Facebook of course) that his mom and dad are getting remarried to each other. After maybe 35 years of being divorced and married to other people. That is my first real-life example of that situation, and frankly it's no picnic for their only son - he's weirded out.

Love this post. And yes, Andrew, I admired Mrs. Doubtfire for tackling this issue realistically - though there was that little movie-goer part of me that wanted the unrealistic, all-tied-up "happy" ending, too. I was glad the writers didn't wuss out from reality.


Thank you, thank you, thank you. I'm raising a step-daughter with my husband, her mom and step-dad. Every one of us loves her to the core and yet divorce is a regular conversation for us. Just yesterday the hubs and I were talking about her grief in the divorce, even still. I linked to this article in my own post today.


The problem is that children's films show step-parents as the bad guys. Cinderella, Snow White, Hansel and Gretel - all of them evil step-parents. It was too bad - that should show the opposite.
